Canada holds 1/5 of the earth's fresh water.

Thus it stands to reason that the most water - rich nation should have a national charitable organization such as The Rivers and Lakes Foundation of Canada, which dedicates itself exclusively to the conservation of our fresh water.

Over the course of the last 15 years, The Rivers and Lakes Foundation of Canada has largely focussed its efforts on riparian restoration projects.

The foundation has also organized and hosted special events such as the French language forum on riparian buffers, held on the 19th of May, 2011, in Ste. Hyacinthe.

Finally, our organization is in the process of launching an English language Summit dedicated to the conservation and stewardship of our rivers and lakes.

This Summit will address multiple aspects of rivers and lakes conservation, including :

• ethical considerations ;
• hydrology; wildlife;
• regulations and jurisdictions ;
• and the practicalities involved, in an attempt to discover novel and innovative solutions.
